SUCCESS STORY : A CASE OF CORONARY ARTERY ANOMALY
The human heart is a marvel of intricate design, yet occasionally, nature introduces unique anatomical variations that present even seasoned cardiologists with significant challenges. Recently, Dr. Priya Palimkar encountered such a case — a patient experiencing severe angina due to an uncommon coronary artery anomaly.
Typically, the right coronary artery arises from the right aortic sinus, while the left coronary artery originates from the left. However, in this patient’s case, the left anterior descending (LAD) artery, which generally branches from the left coronary artery, instead stemmed from the left circumflex artery. Uniquely, this left circumflex artery originated from the right aortic sinus – a rare anatomical configuration that increased the risk and complexity of treatment.
Despite these challenges, Dr. Palimkar approached the case with her characteristic expertise and precision. Employing the radial route, she successfully performed angioplasty on the affected artery, navigating the patient’s unique coronary structure. Using this minimally invasive approach not only reduced recovery time but also restored proper blood flow, effectively alleviating the patient’s chest pain.
