SUCCESS STORY: MR. KHAN'S BATTLE AGAINST HEART ATTACK

Mr. Khan (name changed for privacy protection), a 56-year-old man, presented to our hospital in a critical condition with acute anterior wall myocardial infarction, commonly known as a heart attack. This severe heart attack had triggered cardiogenic shock, a life-threatening condition where the heart is unable to pump enough blood to meet the body’s needs.

Time was of the essence. Dr. Priya Palimkar & the team swiftly administered emergency care and before proceeding with any invasive procedures, an angiography was performed to assess the extent of the blockage. The results were alarming: a complete blockage was identified in the left main artery, the heart’s primary blood supplier.

A time-critical primary angioplasty (PAMI) was performed to open the blocked artery. Subsequently, advanced cardiac support systems, including the Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump (IABP), were deployed to assist his weakened heart. Within next two days, his blood pressure stabilized slowly, and his heart function improved from 25% to 35%.

Mr. Khan’s recovery is a testament to the expertise and rapid response of our cardiac team. While cardiogenic shock carries a high mortality rate of 30-60% in the short term and 40-50% in the long term, Mr. Khan’s successful outcome highlights the importance of timely intervention and advanced cardiac care.
